Redwood forest flora

Redwood forest flora

I was told the flower in the middle was called trillium, hope it is correct. Several years back, I had the opportunity to visit a redwood forest, I was intrigued by the ground flora and moss, so I photographed it and painted it. Painting moss was a challenge, but I feel I did justice to the moss. I may do this one again for the challenge of it. This painting was oil, on canvas, 16×20. I sold it awhile back. Sorry for the small example, I need to dig around for slightly larger one.

By popular request, I dug around and figured out how to provide a larger example of “Trullum”, enjoy.

Reeds on the River

As so many artists have done before me… rising in the wee hours of the morning and packing tons of their art supplies to be on location… just to be there for the first rays of the sun, to capture those perfect shadows and the ever so evasive blue morning tint. Packing hot coffee, watercolors, bushes, easel and a never warm enough cold weather parka, always a very long hike to a vantage point on top of the highest hill… only to find out they forgot the water.

Mixed Media on full sheet

Mixed Media on full sheet

This abstract is called “Reeds on the River” it is mixed media on a full sheet.

Ps: Actually I do most of my work in studio.

Alleyway

I prefer to take photographs which inspire me, mostly to paint, this is one time where I stopped the truck and pissed off someone in a truck behind me, (it was in an alleyway) I took only one photograph which I knew at the time I would paint. The challenge of painting structures is always fun. This is done in mixed media… as I recall 18 X 24 inches on canvas. Alleyway

Abstract

Recently I have been on an abstract tear. I really enjoy the freedom of experesson when in the zone doing an abstract painting, this one is a watercolor, if I recall a half sheet which means it is about 15 inches by 22 inches.
Fyi: I made the error of not taking a photo of the painting before having it framed, which is a problem trying not to get a glare, same problem for oil paintings which have been varnished.

Horse logging

Working Together

Working Together 4 X 5 oil

Several years back, actually longer then I wish to dwell on, I took photograph’s of a horse logging operation as my work entailed doing photography and video. The horse logging was used to demonstrate low impact on the forest as they selectively logged trees and the horses were believed to have less impact on the forest environment compared to heavy equipment.

Seabiscuit

Since my blog is supposed to be about my art, I thought I would start with a painting I finished several years ago. I was inspired to paint Seabiscuit from the famous 1938 photograph by Jack Shipply…link: (Google Jack Shipply Seabiscuit) what is interesting to me is the original photograph only measures 8 inches by 10 inches, while my painting is 24 x 30, on panel, mixed media. One other thing I did not know… because I did not see the movie… Seabiscuit’s mask color is supposed to be red. Sold this one. Seabiscuit

Bantering Coyotes

In the wee hours of the morning, I hear the Coyotes making such a fuss

Yapping, Yelling, and screaming, carrying on like there is no us

They do not care who they wake, as long as they get to keep what they take

Like people getting what they want, yapping Yelling and screaming and they continue to taunt

All over the place they are, I hear them up close and off quite far

One would ask how could they have gone on as they seem

When all they do is keep yapping, yelling and yes… even scream

Barking yapping and even crying

Barking yapping and even crying

Broken Noise

Now for the arts…tommorow President George Bush is going to unavail the world to a petdegree of unenlightment,  the announcement is, he is going to show the world  19 masterpieces he painted of world leaders?  As an artist of ill repute I am  looikng forward to seeing his work. Let’s hope his art provides some justice (irony intended) to those great  world leaders like…Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gangrich, the Koch brothers  and other great world leaders. From what I unerstand,  this unavailin will be happening  tommorow on the Today Show…on the other hand if you see this message tommorow this would mean you will see the unavailin today on the Today Show unless you happen to be lucky and have an important appointmet to get a hang nail taken care of.

pS: My apology because this is broken noise, I am forced to type this from my phone.

Adolf…Civil War Hero

Not many people know this and probaly more people would not care… when Adolf Hitler
Had his 122 birthday last year in Chicago, evidently some people actually celibated it. Only in Chicago, about 60 people gathered at a Restaurant to party hardy for Hitler’s “birthday”. It seemed they where also celebrating the start of the Civil war…now I do not know if party goers happen to know this, but Hitler was not in the Civil war?

According to observations from passer by’s…the room was decorated with swastikas, and banners and there were two cakes which were decorated with the words “Happy 122ed Birthday Adolf” and the other one said…”The South Was Right. White Men Fight.” apparently some people do not have a clue of how many years it has been since the Civil War…which explains some things!

Party goers did not wear costumes depicting either Nazis or the Civil war, but there seemed to have been a large number of people wearing tea bags and one person was reported to be riding a strawman,..waving a red fish… which seemd to be a troubling cause of concern among many of the party goers, because they suggested it sort of looked gay?

Police Chief Harry Toad, told reporters that a man with a backpack entered the banquet hall and ordered a shot of Tequila and a vegan sandwich with roast beef and cranberry sauce,.. before heading into the men’s room to set off a smoke bomb.

Harry Toad said the officers do not have a clear description of the man who threw the smoke bomb, except that he was medium height, with a ruddy complexion, had a peg leg, a patch over one eye and a hook for one hand. Police are asking for any information leading to the wherabouts of this man!

Owner of the restaurant, Dusty Bucket,.. said he was not aware that the banquet space was rented for Hitler and he had not noticed the Swastikas!

Kama Sutra Politics… Guess who gets buggered?

My self proclaimed expert opinion supersedes many others, for the simple reason I had cards printed. I do not know about anyone else in this great nation of ours, I have seen some marvelous changes made since Obama has been in the white house…for the life of me I just cannot pin a finger on any of them. So the only hope I seem able to conjure up is my hope these great changes made by Obama become apparent to me before I am struck by a meteor.

During the election I was gaga over Obama under his spinning spell of the Hope and Change, only to find out it turned into a blind date with a much smarter George Bush. What ever happened to getting rid of the lobbyists? How about the new Medical Scheme, (the ACA) seems like it turned out to be much better than a stick in the eye and more expensive. If I knew Obama was going to spend all his time in so many different compromising positions, I would have ordered a hard bound copy of “Kama Sutra” from Amazon.

I voted for Obama even though I was aware of his hawk like qualities, after all Obama seemed like such a nice guy, who actually speaks using complete sentences.

After contemplating my navel, I feel there is little difference between either the Democrats or the Republicans. Eight years of watching a smirking Bush in the white house and congress giving the smirking Bush just about everything he asked for without a hitch… except Social Security. Then hope and change Obama moves into the White house with a much touted Democratic majority and all of a sudden everything passes with the ease of a kidney stone. Blame can go to the Blue ball Democrats and the GOPER party of no for calling the shots, after all these compromising positions the need for a “Kama Sutra 2” should be in order!
